In our lives of uncertainties, negative thoughts are very common. They are like an automated process. But is it the situation that is negative or it is just in our mind? We need to check this.
Recently I had come across a simple experiment to check the authenticity of these negative thoughts. It's like journal therapy. For this, you just need to fill layout:
- Thought: Here you will write what is your negative thought. It is very important to first identify and acknowledge your negative thought.
- Proof in Favour: Since it is your thought, so there will not be any issue in collecting all the facts and arguments which favour your thought.
- Proof in Against: This section is crucial for you. Here you will move out to the opposite party and will try to find all the facts and arguments that are against your thought and write them down in this column. This may be very difficult for you as you are going against yourself. So, you have to do your best in this section.
- Check accuracy: After all the above processes of collecting facts and arguments in both columns, you will analyze them. Stay calm and be honest to yourself here. It's very important to stay genuine with ourselves. Now write whether your negative was accurate or it was just a story made by you in your mind. Write its accuracy.
- Result: After knowing its accuracy, you can now write the result.
- If your negative thought was genuine and right, then try to stay positive because it's just the situation. Don't let the negativity of the situation induce the same in you. In fact, you should be happy that you still a positive one who has judged the situation accurately.
- In case, your negative thought is actually wrong, then congrats things are negative just in your mind and by eliminating this wrong thought you can easily make things positive.
This was just a short version of journal therapy. I am not any professional doctor or counselor. But I am the one who used this technique and I am satisfied and delighted with it. So I decided to share it with you all. And I would love to hear from you about your experience with this experiment.
